It’s not every day you see a woman riding a horse through Port aux Basques, but it was Megan Lewis’ mode of transportation yesterday.

Megan Lewis and her horse Lady pose by the Marine Atlantic terminal. She is making her way around the world on horseback.

Lewis, who is originally from Wales, is attempting to traverse the entire world on horseback. She already rode from China to Europe. Now she is working on the other hemisphere.

People were stopping to snap photos on their cellphones as she rode from the red barn in Grand Bay West to Tim Hortons yesterday afternoon. She made a detour up to Caribou Road to take a photo of her horse with the ferry in the background.

Lewis said the hospitality she received as she rode across Newfoundland has been unparalleled.

Her horse, named Lady, is at least half Newfoundland Pony. Lewis plans to take Lady and possibly a second horse right across Canada and the United States over the next few years.

Watch for more details in the June 30 edition of The Gulf News.
