Corner Brook city council and Memorial University of Newfoundland have agreed to the terms of a memorandum of understanding with regards to the operation of the Pepsi Centre.

The current agreement with Memorial University had anticipated Western Sports and Entertainment Inc. would remain the operators until Aug. 31, 2016. Under the terms of the new memorandum of understanding announced at Wednesday’s public city council meeting, the city will take back the operations of the facility Sept. 1 of this year.

During this transition, the city said there will not be any changes to the staffing or employees of the Pepsi Centre. Existing employees will become employees of the City of Corner Brook, according to Mayor Charles Pender.

The city says it will be evaluating various staffing requirements over the coming months to ensure the structure allows for the expected growth in use for the facility
