Rocky Harbour man dies in highway accident

A 69-year-old Rocky Harbour man died in this accident near Doyles.

A 69-year-old Rocky Harbour man is dead following an accident east of Doyles Monday morning.

The lone occupant of a vehicle that crashed on the Trans-Canada Highway shortly after 9 a.m. was pronounced dead at the scene, reported the Port aux Basques RCMP detachment.

The exact cause of the collision is not yet known and the investigation is continuing.

Neither speed nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors, according to the RCMP. The name of the deceased is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.

    There's been at least 5 accidents in that exact spot on the highway over the last few years. When you travel through there heading east, the turn before that spot.seems to take an additional turn in the middle of the turn and requires a slight adjustment while steering through it. It can catch you off guard if your not paying attention.
