A suspected grenade spotted in 10 feet of water off the marina in St. Philip’s has been retrieved by the ordnance disposal team of the Canadian Forces Atlantic Fleet Diving Unit from Halifax.
They are describing the grenade as “inert ordnance”.
Whether that means the object was a toy, a lighter or some such object made to look like a grenade, or something more along the lines of a grenade that was no longer live ammunition isn’t clear. The whole operation only took about 20 minutes. The team sent down a single diver who retrieved the object and put it in a safe box before bringing it to the surface.
Public access to the marina is now returned to normal.
