It’s going to be a frosty start to the Labour Day weekend for parts of western Newfoundland tonight.
Environment Canada has issued a frost advisory for the Deer Lake/Humber Valley and the Green Bay/White Bay regions.
Frost may damage some crops in frost-prone areas, stated the advisory.
A cold airmass associated with a ridge of high pressure will pass over the island of Newfoundland tonight. Temperatures in low-lying inland areas are expected to approach the freezing mark resulting in patchy frost overnight.
The federal agency is advising people to take preventative measures to protect frost-sensitive plants and trees.
The weather will improve for most of western Newfoundland Saturday with sunny skies and temperatures reaching around 20 C.
Cloudy skies and showers are in the forecast for Sunday before the sunny weather makes a return for Monday.
