Henry Vokey, left, receives his honorary doctor of laws degree before a room full of Grenfell Campus, Memorial University of Newfoundland graduates Friday afternoon at the Arts and Culture Centre in Corner Brook.
Henry Vokey — who will be 84 on Sunday — was presented an honorary doctor of laws degreethis morning during the Grenfell Campus, Memorial University of Newfoundland convocation ceremony at the Arts and Culture Centre in Corner Brook.
The humble man deflected the recognition and honour he was receiving at the convocation, as family, friends and residents flocked to his side following the presentation of his honour before a crowded room of graduates.
“It’s nothing special — not for me,” Vokey said with a chuckle.
He was more inclined to credit all the young graduates who he felt were more deserving of the recognition for their hard work in their respective field of study.
"It’s better for the younger ones because they have their whole life ahead of them,” said Vokey.
