Lamaline CP) — A group of explorers from the French islands of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon are searching for a fishing trawler that sank off the coast of southeastern Newfoundland more than 50 years ago.

The Ravenel went down during stormy weather with 15 people on board while returning to the French islands in 1962.

Searcher Xavier Bowering says relatives of the crew are looking for closure and would like to pinpoint the whereabouts of the ship.

Bowering says their efforts are concentrated near Lamaline, roughly 75 kilometres southwest of Marystown.

He says they’re asking area residents for any information about the sinking.
