A man who has been visiting Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook on a number of occasions lately wonders whatever became of the Western Health’s no smoking policy.
“We used to see patients wearing hospital gowns and towing IV bags forced off the grounds to have a smoke not long ago.
“Now, you can see smokers all over the place — even standing near the main entrance puffing. There are butts everywhere you look around the outside of the hospital.
“Looks to me like there is nobody on staff left to enforce the rules,” he said.
“All that’s left of the policy are the ignored signs around the parking lot.”
Somone who describes themselves as “Boomsider” dropped us a note regarding the article about lotto winnings in last week’s column.
“I agree with the finding there are less winners. I noticed it immediately after the first price increase from $1 to two.
“We bought the same numbers twice weekly for several years and before the increase we were winning small amounts, but it stopped and we hardly won at all.
“The only way to win is to stop buying tickets,” Boomsider said.

“Given the results of the last byelection, is it just possible those words of wisdom voiced by a previous premier of this province about “ABC” (Anyone But Conservative) during a federal general election have come home to roost at the feet of the provincial PCs?
