A Corner Brook driver reports that workers replaced damaged guard rails on Grenfell Drive in the city recently.
“It’s a beautiful job and needed to be done. But why on earth is it being done in September?” he asked.
“The original rails and posts were broken during snowclearing operations. Now, they’re fixed just in time for the snow to fly again.
“Can’t any construction be done in the spring in this city?” he asked.
Humber West MHA Vaughn Granter sent this response to an item from a woman about money for extra seats for Corner Brook’s Pepsi Centre:
“The $15,000 was a recreation grant from Department of Tourism Culture and Recreation that the city applied for and was successful to put bleachers in the annex not the arena section. These bleachers will be used for user groups, i.e. basketball, volleyball, indoor soccer, badminton, etc.
“I offer that up for clarification purposes.
“I too agree with the woman — I want to see more people in the seats at the Pepsi Centre arena as well,” said the PC member.
A reader sent this note about the lack of information about the replacement of the missing traffic lights where Main Street, Humber Road, Riverside Drive and the service road intersect in the city.
“All traffic lights have been completely removed and have been replaced by temporary stop signs.
“It’s been that way for quite a while now and not doubt others are wondering (what is happening), especially drivers who use the route almost daily.
“Is about time the City of Corner Brook advised the general public what the current plan is for this extremely important and very busy four-way intersection,” the writer said.
A Corner Brook voter says he’s amazed at the number of political signs that have appeared on lawns all over the city.
He’s says it’s turned into an interesting contrast in campaigning methods — old-fashioned signs and modern social media.
