The RNC has made a big splash with their campaign to halt speeding in residential areas of Corner Brook. The force has some new gear that will make it easier for them to monitor speeds of drivers who are putting lives at risk by hurtling through areas replete with small children and other vulnerable pedestrians.
There is little negative to this initiative except to say we hope it lasts.
These types of campaigns are easy to launch but difficult to maintain.
Police officers have plenty to do now and put in a full shift protecting the public.
Like most operations, they can always use more resources and these campaigns add to their workload.
It wasn’t too long ago there was another in a long line of pushes to stamp out the use of electronic devices by drivers while operating vehicles.
The law has been in force in this province for years but drivers can be seen every day of the week flaunting the law they know is there to protect them from themselves.
Anyone who drives in Corner Brook knows this crackdown is needed and will only make life safer for everyone.
But it must go on for more than a few days or a few weeks to have a lasting impact.
Let’s hope our police force can find the time to keep speeders from running wild.
