Dear Editor: Much has been written, debated and reported in the past year about the way our military personnel and veterans are being mistreated and abandoned by the government of Canada.
Although I am no supporter of the Harper government or the Conservative Party of Canada, in all fairness this is not just their game.
I believe the Liberals, and every government all the way back to the First World War, have treated veterans with the same attitude of distain and disinterest.
So who is really to blame?
Mostly ourselves and our representative organizations down through the years for not having the will or commitment to stand up for our interests. Our warriors have stood up to and defeated fearsome enemies, but cannot seem to come to grips with the enemies within our own country. Divide and conquer is an old principle of politics, and successive governments have done an awesome job of doing just that to veterans.
We have a new generation of veterans now who are being subjected to the same mistreatment.
It is far beyond the time when all this should have changed. Let’s do it now.
