Dear Editor: Sue Scott of the Atlantic Salmon Federation takes exception to what I wrote in a recent letter to the editor published in The Western Star.
I am not fabricating the things I have said about ASF.
I would ask the readers of this letter to Google “Forbes” magazine and read for themselves what Bill Taylor said about hook and release of Atlantic salmon.
Readers may ask where I got my statistics? I ask them go to ASF website (ASF.ca), scroll down to the end and in the very left hand corner click on donors to ASF.
This will take you to a PDF document — the annual report. Click on this and at the end of the annual report it gives who donates to ASF.
What I wrote about Atlantic salmon routes in Atlantic Canada is taken directly from ASF’s scientific literature about Atlantic salmon.
My numbers are rounded off, but the numbers are virtually the same. Scott says that the federal government contribution is two per cent of ASF’s budget and I am wondering if she is including all the federal agencies who give money to this organization?
I am also wondering if in that two per cent she includs the Atlantic Salmon Endowment Fund as well as DFO?
