Marble should stay open longer

Dear Editor: This winter we have gotten so much snow and it’s been a great winter but I’m wondering why Marble Mountain is closing when we have more snow then we ever had this time of year.

I really like skiing and I think that Marble should stay open so we can keep active and have some fun spring skiing. I know so many people who want to keep skiing and snowboarding and we easily have enough snow to do so.

Other ski hills, like White Hills in Clarenville, are staying open until the same time as us and they have hardly any snow, and Ben Eoin in Nova Scotia closed this weekend.

When we were there three weeks ago they had no snow anywhere and hardly any people on their hill, so I think that Marble Mountain could stay open for a few more weeks even if they only open on the weekends.

I have a sister who comes every year to ski and she will get here Friday to lots of snow and no skiing. I would imagine there are plenty skiers out there who would love spring skiing on Easter weekend.

Hats off to Patrick for expressing your opinion. We need more youth to speak out about issues.

There's only so much bleeding the provincial government can take until the taxpayer says enough. Marble is a chronic money loser, on the last year of a three plan that will probably see fewer skiers than the first two years of the plan. As for Marble's rates, you can look it up on the internet and you will find that some of Marble's rates are more expensive to ski than in the French Alps. Incredible! But would you not expect anything less from a ski facility that is a short drive from that back stabbing little hovel.

The problem has been mismanagement. Marble has the potential of been a year round resort but due to those in charge it remains subpar. Actually it just isn't Marble but its the Corner Brook mentality. Rather unfortunate to see such a beautiful region remain so stagnant and behind the times.

The place is managed improperly and the staff can't wait to draw unemployment. Simple
