Dear Editor: We have been following with interest on the Western Star website the story of the attack of a young lady on the Corner Brook Stream Trail in July and the subsequent arrest and guilty plea of the man responsible.
Our interest stems from being on the trail that day, hearing her screams and hopefully our intervention helping to eventually apprehend the perpetrator.
Right from the call to 911 the whole issue was handled professionally and efficiently.
We were visitors to your town, had no idea of north to south, where on the trail we were, etc. However, the 911 call operator asked all the right questions to pinpoint our location on the trail.
Within what seemed like only minutes, a canine unit arrived on the scene and went to work and shortly thereafter, another police office, then paramedics.
After receiving our statements, the detectives in charge of the investigation kept in touch, tracking us down in the northern part of the island for further information. They also kept us up to date on his arrest and subsequent charges.
We just want to pass on to the people of Corner Brook our opinion of the quality of policing and emergency services you have in your town.
We live in a small town also (smaller then Corner Brook) and know the value of policing that you can count on. Well done RNC.
