I agree on Remembrance Square

Dear Editor: I agree 100 per cent with Paul Seaward’s letter to the editor on Dec. 11.

Remembrance Square, the centerpiece of our city, should not be a site for neon orange signs and plywood covered fountains.

It is a place of great respect, a place to reflect and honour our veterans — past and present.

Since Seaward wrote the letter, the signs, etc., have been taken down.

I give credit to the mayor for this move but I give more credit to the letter’s author.

However, I hope the same eyesore does not reappear in the early spring. Our Remembrance Square is beautiful ... let’s keep it that way.

Pat Taylor, Corner Brook

Skateboarding is a summer time waster, not year-round.,,,,so on the positive side, barriers are only required for 7 months a year. Today's Corner Brook is simply not an appropriate place to provide attractive or expensive public amenities...and that reality should be quite easily appreciated by any civic leader with a half clue. That the specific design for this area --- which is supposed to facilitate and promote public respect, moments of quiet reflection or introspection --- would simply end up being desecrated and vandalized by lazy, mindless thugs takes very little foresight or intuition. Et voila: instead of a having a place of honour and respect, we built a humiliating reminder of the ever-declining state of our city. Take a bow, Corner Brook.
