September skating gala slated for St. Johns

ST. JOHN'S - Some of Canada's best figure skaters of the past and present are coming to the province for the Steele Communications Evening of Champions.

World and Olympic champions Kurt Browning, Jamie Sale and David Pelletier will headline the Sept. 20th show at the Mile One Centre in St. John's.

Joining them are 2008 world pair bronze medalists Jessica Dube and Bryce Davison, 2008 Canadian ladies champion Joannie Rochette, 2008 Canadian pairs champions Anabelle Langois and Cody Hay, 2006 Canadian junior men's champion Joey Russell and Corner Brook's Alexandra and Matthew Young, 2008 Canadian pre-novice pairs bronze medalists and 2008 Eastern Canadian pre-novice pairs champions.

Also participating in the show will be some Newfoundland and Labrador provincial figure skating champions such as 2008 pre-novice ladies sectional champion Julia Mercer, 2008 juvenile ladies sectional champion Ashley Bishop, 2008 novice ladies sectional silver medalist Yvonne Chan and 2008 pre-novice men's sectional silver medalist Alex White.

Browning will host the evening and proceeds from the show will support the Skate Canada Newfoundland and Labrador Athlete Assistance Fund and the development of Newfoundland and Labrador's future champions.
