STEPHENVILLE The weather has been a little cool and damp, but it hasn’t stopped golfers from hitting the Harmon Seaside Links.
The 18-hole golf course located in Stephenville has been open for business since Friday and club president Justin House said the course is in pretty good shape for this time of the year.
“The grass is just starting to grow so I mean we are getting patches of green here and there, but for the most part it’s just starting,” Harmon Seaside Links president Justin House said Tuesday. “We got our normal wet spots, but the full 18 holes is playable.”
Friday’s opening was welcomed by golfers itching to play a few rounds after a long winter, but the opening of the links is actually a week later than last year.
“We had a bit more frost in the ground this year so we wanted to make sure that was gone before we opened,” he said.
There was a fair amount of activity on the course over the weekend, according to House.
“Oh yeah, it was great. I think over the weekend we had over 80 people pay green fees,” he said.
Looking ahead to the season, House has every reason to believe the club will have its usual 200 members, but he also has seen some new faces join the mix.
“We’ve already had some new members sign up and we expanded our storage area, which helps,” he said, noting improvements to the clubhouse is on the priority list for this season.
“We’re going to try to push it to have a good year again this year. We had a great year last year so we’re hoping to follow through the same way again.”
