CORNER BROOK — Two for two for the Churchills.

Corner Brook’s fleet-footed running couple Lee and Kastine Churchill shared the accolades at the 16th annual Arthur James Sun Run with impressive victories for the second-straight Corner Brook Running Club race of the 2012 running season.

Lee was the fastest on the winding eight-kilometre run along Griffin Drive Sunday morning with a final clocking of 28 minutes and 19 seconds, while his wife Kastine scampered across the finish line in 37 minutes and 43 seconds to win the women’s race, claiming 13th place overall in a field of 53 runners.

The avid runners started the season by winning the Take the Plunge Spring Opener 5K race in Massey Drive last month in the first of five timed races planned for the 2012 calendar.

Aubrey Sanders of Corner Brook (28:41), Stephen Adams of Stephenville (29:03), Steve May of Corner Brook (31:16), Johnathan Collins of Harbour Grace (31:25), Carl Barrett of Corner Brook (32:04), Dean Simon of St. George’s (32:25), Johnny Forward of Corner Brook (33:18), Tom Knight of Corner Brook (34:43) and Corner Brook’s Chad Willis (36:06) rounded out the top finishers.

Nancy Jewer, 14th overall, claimed second place on the women’s side with a final time of 38 minutes and 13 seconds, while Trina Bussey of Pasadena was the third fastest female with a time of 38:31.
