CORNER BROOK They finally have something positive to build on.
Apparently sick of losing, Gary Kean erupted for three goals Monday night to lead the previously-winless Western Building Products to a 3-2 triumph over the West Side Monarchs in Corner Brook Molson Broomball League action at the Pepsi Centre.
Mike Hawco and Lance Ereaut responded for the Monarchs in the loss.
Early on, it looked like the it would be an easy night punched for the Monarchs, as Hawco’s goal came just 24 seconds into the game, from Clarence Bennett.
Ereaut made it a 2-0 contest at 10:21 of the first half, an unassisted effort that seemed destined to seal an eighth loss in as many games for the builders.
Less than a minute later, at 9:36, Kean scored the opening goal of his natural hat trick, from Tyler Wells. Suddenly, the builders had life.
Kean followed that up with another goal, coming at 6:02, from Dave Thorne and Jason Tarbett, evening the game before half-time.
His third tally came quickly in the second half, at 16:35, from Tarbett.
That was enough to seal the first victory of the year for the builders, just as the league enters its holiday hiatus.
The following is a summary of the other league game on Monday night:
Newfoundland Fasteners 2,
