Ereaut notches a pair as Monarchs win sixth in a row

CORNER BROOK  Even while riding a six-game winning streak, the West Side Monarchs can’t quite pull away from the pack.

Lance Ereaut scored twice for the gold and black on Monday night in a 5-1 victory over Newfoundland Fasteners at the Pepsi Centre.

With the win, the Monarchs improved to 9-4-2 and currently lead the Corner Brook Molson Men’s Broomball League standings by just one point over Investors Group (7-3-5).

Mike Hawco, Scott Wayson and Eric (Sticky) Young also disturbed the mesh for the Monarchs.

Chuck Coley provided the lone bolt bunch goal. They remain in third place at 6-5-4.

Ereaut had his first of the night at 10:04 of the first, from Hawco and Clarence Bennett, before Hawco himself struck at 5:04, a power-play goal, assisted by Bennett.

Coley cut the lead to 2-1 at 14:40 of the second half, with Brian Park assisting on the play, but Ereaut restored the two-goal cushion at 13:09, with Wayson assisting.

Wayson scored at 11:44, from Hawco and Bennett, to make it a 4-1 game, while Young sealed it with 1:20 remaining. Bennett and Ereaut drew the assists.

Mark Breen was the winning goalkeeper, with Adam Tilley taking the loss.

Darren Simmonds registered the eventual game-winner with just one second left on the clock in the first half, while Greg Park provided the other goal.

Chris Casey broke the goose egg with nine seconds to go in the game.

Ian Jones earned the win in net, while Albert Specker suffered the defeat. The builders fell to 1-11-3 on the year.
