CORNER BROOK Mike Brake of Veitch’s Ultramar Hawks led his team to a 3-1 victory over the West Side Monarchs.
During Corner Brook Molson Senior Baseball League action Tuesday evening, the Monarchs started the scoring in the first when Aaron Flood scored on an error.
Brake — who went 2-for-2 on the night — hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the same inning to give his team a 2-1 lead.
After two scoreless innings, Chris Gaudon of the Hawks added the insurance run in the bottom of the fouth off a single. That scored Brake to end the scoring for both teams in the game.
Frank Humber picked up the win on the mound for the Hawks.
Humber went seven innings while surrendering one run on five hits. He also pitched two walks and struck out three.
In a losing effort, Adam Warren threw six innings for the Monarchs. Warren gave up three runs on five hits, while throwing one walk and striking out one batter.
Senior baseball league action resumes Thursday at Jubilee Field at 7 p.m. when the Veitch Physiotherapy Aces take on the Junior Barons.
