Women’s softball final gets underway Tuesday

CORNER BROOK  The quest for the Corner Brook women’s softball crown gets underway Tuesday night.

Regular season champion Whelan’s Gate will tangle with the Rapid Power Sports Bees in a best-of-seven final affair.

The opener set for Tuesday 5:45 p.m. at Ambrose O’Reilly Memorial Field.

Whelan’s Gate earned a berth in the final by sweeping the West Side Monarchs in a best-of-three semifinal series. The Gate girls hammered the black and gold 15-0 in Game 3 Tuesday night. The Bees earned a berth in the final by ousting the KSAB Rangers from the playoff hunt in three-straight games in the league’s other semi-final matchup.

The Bees sent the Rangers packing with a convincing 17-4 win Wednesday night, showing the rest of the league there is offensive punch in the Bees with a 25-hit barrage supporting winning pitcher Tammy Kendall.

Game 2 of the series is slated for Wednesday, while Game 3 is slated for Thursday 5:45 p.m. at Ambrose O’Reilly Memorial Field.
