CORNER BROOK — Bill Avery continues to lead the charge for the Raiders.
The Raiders improved to 3-0 on the gridiron as quarterback Avery threw three touchdown passes and three interceptions in a 22-18 victory over the Pasadena Pirates in Coors Light Touch Football League play Sunday at Wellington Street Sports Complex.
Avery connected with Steve Cave, Steve Bugden and Bobby Cook for TDs while Cook also hauled in a two-point convert for the winners in Week 3 of league play.
Avery also added a rogue for the Raiders, while Cave also added one to his stats line.
Cook and John Burry intercepted Pirates quarterback Greg Whalen and Craig Peddle had two interceptions against Whalen.
Steve Vardy had a sack against Whelan for the league-leading Raiders.
After being down 21-12, the Pirates kept the game interesting late in the second half when Whalen intercepted a toss from Avery and returned it the distance for a touchdown. It was one of two interceptions Whalen had on Avery.
Avery added a rogue to close out the door as the Pirates came up short in this contest.
Whelan threw TD passes to Mark Gillis and Rob George along with four interceptions in a hard-fought game.
Brandon Walsh also had an interception for the Pirates.
League action resumes Sunday with three games on the slate as the Falcons tangle with Marine Lounge at 10 a.m., the Raiders square off with the Golden Gophers at noon and the Jets play the Pirates at 2 p.m. at Wellington Street Sports Complex.

Western College Jets 8, Marine Lounge 0
After a very defensive and scoreless first half, Ryan Parsons of the Jets sacked Marine Lounge QB Adam Anderson in his own endzone resulting in a safety to put the visiting squad from Stephenville a 2-0 advantage.
On the ensuing drive, Jets QB Timmy Caines connected with Daniel Alexander to put the Jets up 8-0.
The defending champions had a couple of chances late to tie the game, but came up scoreless as Steve Perry of the Jets intercepted Anderson on two occasions.
Caines recorded an interception of Marine QB Paul Prosper in the shutout victory.
Marine Lounge’s Brad Seaward intercepted QB Caines, while Paul Prosper had two sacks in a losing cause.
Golden Gophers 42, Falcons 13
