Jillian Forsey lowered her own provincial senior and junior 5,000-metre records by more than 22 seconds at the World Junior Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. on Wednesday night.

Running against an international field, the 19-year-old from Kippens finished ninth overall in a time of 16 minutes, 2.55 seconds. That’s the second fastest time ever run by a Canadian junior and is only 10 seconds outside the Canadian junior record. Forsey is the first woman from Newfoundland and Labrador to be selected to compete for Canada in a world championship track and field event.
