Tyler Wells sat out his second-straight game as Kelly’s Pub Canadians suffered a tough 4-3 loss to Quebec on Tuesday.
Kelly’s Pub, with Wells, a Cox’s Cove native and only player from western playing with the Newfoundland and Labrador entry, dropped to 1-2 at the 2014 Canadian U21 men’s softball championship being held this week in Irma, Alta.
The Quebec team put the game away in the seventh inning with the winning run scoring as a result of two errors.
Colby Murphy scattered nine hits in a complete game to take the pitching loss.
Ed Heffernan was the top hitter for Kelly’s going 2-for-4 with two triples, while Brandon Pomeroy went 2-for-3 with a homer.
Wells played three innings at third base in the team’s opener, a 13-0 loss where he picked up the only hit his could muster.
The provincial Under-21 squad was scheduled to play the Saskatoon Diamondbacks in a later game, but result from that game wasn’t available at press time due to the different time zones.
