CORNER BROOK A handful of local baseball players will strut their stuff on the national stage this weekend.
Corner Brook native Myles Vincent, his big brother Grant Vincent and Pasadena’s Daniel Hearn will suit up with the Mount Pearl Blazers at the 2013 national junior baseball championship in Dartmouth, N. S. this weekend.
The 10-team tournament, which gets underway today, sees the Blazers in a pool of five teams with Quebec, British Columbia, Manitoba and host Dartmouth providing the opposition.
Newfoundland and Labrador opens the national junior tournament today 9 a.m. against Quebec.
The Newfoundland and Labrador Selects, which features Corner Brook native Daniel McCarthy, will participate in the national midget baseball championship in Trois Rivieres, Que. this weekend. Rob Myrden of Corner Brook is the head coach for the Selects squad, while Corner Brook Baseball Association president Kevin McCarthy — father of Daniel McCarthy — is the team’s manager.
McCarthy and company open the 11-team tournament today with a showdown 8:30 a.m. against Saskatchewan.
