CORNER BROOK Don’t be alarmed if there are a lot of mosquitoes buzzing around Little Jubilee Field this weekend.
That just means another minor baseball tournament is underway.
Corner Brook will play host to the five-team 2013 provincial AAA Mosquito Baseball Tournament in the city this weekend.
Grand Falls-Windsor, Gander, Mount Pearl and St. John’s will be gunning for the crown when the tournament kicks off Friday.
The tournament opener will feature the Corner Brook AAA Mosquito Barons tangling with Grand Falls-Windsor 1:30 p.m. at Little Jubilee Field. Gander opens the tournament against Mount Pearl in a contest slated for 5 p.m. at Ambrose O’Reilly Memorial Field, while the only other game scheduled for Day 1 — St. John’s vs Corner Brook — is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Little Jubilee Field.
Round-robin action continues Saturday with games at both venues with the championship final slated for Sunday 2 p.m. unless there is a need for a tie-breaking game along the way.
