CORNER BROOK Grant Vincent belted a brace of run-producing doubles in a 2-for-4 outing to lead the Veitch Physiotherapy Aces to a lopsided 9-1 win over the Supplement Shack Junior Barons.
Steve Hynes supported the Aces with a 2-for-4 outing at the dish in the Corner Brook Senior Baseball‚ÄąLeague Sunday in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader.
The Aces took command of the contest in the top of the first inning with one of Vincent‚Äôs timely doubles one of three hits igniting a five-run uprising at Jubilee Field.
Jay Warford wielded the big bat for the Junior Barons going 3-for-4 with a stolen base, while Travis Taylor went 1-for-3 with a solo homer in home half of the first inning producing the only run for the junior squad.
Ryan Park picked up the win over Kevin Farrell.
The following is a look at Friday‚Äôs senior baseball game between the Curling Marlins and Veitch‚Äôs Ultramar Hawks:
Hawks 2, Marlins 1
Colin Wood won the batttle of the southpaws against Mark McWhirter in a close contest that saw the expansion Marlins lose its second-straight game since joining the league this year.
Wood went the distance on the hill allowing one run on seven hits, while marking up seven strikeouts and showing great control with no walks charged against him over seven innings.
McWhirter was impressive in his first start giving up two earned runs on five hits and four walks, while chalking up five strikeouts.
Keith Simmonds was the offensive weapon for the Hawks going 1-for-2 with a walk while scoring a run and producing another.
Wayne Hicks went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Marlins.
