The Corner Brook Barons bowed out in the semifinal of the Pepsi Provincial 18U Midget AA baseball championship over the weekend.

The Barons were bested 7-6 by the Conception Bay North Bulldogs in the six-team tournament.

Corner Brook had also dropped a 16-4 decision to the Mount Pearl Blazers and suffered a 13-3 round-robin loss to the Bulldogs, but then locked down a 4-2 victory over the Gander Pilots in crossover action to reach the semifinal anyway.

In the final, the St. John’s Capitals blanked the Bulldogs 13-0 to capture the championship and earn the right to represent the province at the Atlantic Midget AA Tournament in Prince Edward Island on Labour Day weekend.

Daniel Rice of the Capitals was named the tournament’s most valuable player. Gander’s Riley King was top pitcher, while Michael Clarke of Mount Pearl was top batter.

Other tournament scores were: St. John’s 15, Conception Bay South 2; Conception Bay North 12, Mount Pearl 2; Gander 7, Conception Bay South 0; St. John’s 9, Gander 3; Conception Bay South 9, Mount Pearl 2; and St. John’s 5, Conception Bay South 3.
