CORNER BROOK Travis Taylor drove in three runs in a 1-for-3 outing as the Supplement Shack Junior Barons registered a sweep of the Wing Nâ€ˆIt Curling Marlins with an 8-7 win in the second game of a doubleheader Sunday afternoon.
Taylor delivered a two-run single in the sixth inning and cashed in a run in the second inning compliments of a sacrfice fly.
Michael McWhirter, younger sibling of Marlinsâ€™ Mark McWhirter, went 1-for-3 with a triple and a walk as the Marlins still look for its first win as an expansion team.
Des Ball, a Deer Lake native, was the big gun for the Marlins with two hits in four attempts, while Cory Wight went 1-for-2 with an RBI and run scored in a losing cause.
In the first game, Daniel McCarthy helped the baby Barons erase a seven-run deficit by going 2-for-3 with a walk in a 9-8 win over the winless Marlins.
Daniel Humber supported the offensive attack with a brace of runs batted and a stolen base in a 2-for-4 outing.
Mark McWhirter was the top hitter for the Marlins going 3-for-3 with a walk, while Jamie Brake shared the spotlight going 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored.
Travis Taylor, who had an RBI double for the winners, took the pitching decision in relief of starter Ryan Harnett.
Taylor gave up one run on one hit and two walks in 3 1/3 innings while chalking up five strikeouts. He issued two walks during his short relief stint.
Harnett gave up seven runs â€” four earned â€” on seven hits and five walks in 3 2/3 innings.
Shawn Anderson took the loss after allowing nine runs on nine hits and three walks. The right-handed workhorse of the Marlins pitching staff picked up eight strikeouts in a complete game.

Brad Brewer tossed a complete game allowing three runs on four hits and five walks. The big southpaw marked up four outs via the strikeout route.
