Brian Bennett was on the mound for the Veitch Physio Aces as they played the Supplement Shack Junior Barons at Jubilee Field Tuesday.
Brian Bennett had it together on the hill.
The right-hander scattered five hits and marked up eight strikeouts to win a pitcher’s duel against Ryan Harnett as the Veitch Physiotherapy Aces eked out a 3-1 victory over the Supplement Shack Junior Barons.
Bennett only allowed two walks in a complete game in the Corner Brook Senior Baseball League game Tuesday night at Jubilee Field.
Harnett was equally impressive going the distance for his team, giving up three earned runs on three hits and five walks. The right-handed pitcher had seven strikeouts.
The Aces scored two runs in the home half of the first inning when Bennett’s groundout cashed in a run before Stephen Hynes brought a run across with a sacrifice fly.
The Junior Barons got on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth when Travis Taylor — top hitter in the provincial senior A baseball final over the weekend — delivered a run-scoring triple.
The Aces answered quickly in the home half of the inning when Steve Kelly scored an unearned run on a passed ball.
Bennett was tough with the lead and it was probably a good thing as the Aces were charged with four errors in the victory.
League action resumes Thursday night with the Wing N It Curling Marlins looking to pick up its first win of the season in a showdown against the Veitch’s Ultramar Hawks 7 p.m. at Jubilee Field.
The Marlins enter the game winless in 11 games as an expansion team.
