CORNER BROOK  Gander’s Rod Feltham was perfect on home ice in winning the provincial Travellers men’s curling club championship Sunday.

Feltham, curling out of the Gander Community Centre, defeated Corner Brook’s Mike Mullins 8-5 in the final showdown Sunday to earn the right to represent Newfoundland and Labrador at the national Travellers tournament Nov. 24-30 in Halifax.

Mullins, along with rinkmates third Brian King, second Blair Fradsham and lead Dennis Bruce, advanced to the final by beating Harold Walters of the St. John’s Curling Club 10-3 in a semifinal matchup at the Gander Community Centre.

Brian Bailey of the Corner Brook Curling Club, flanked by teammates third Devon Parry, second Steve Sheppard and lead Mitchell, finished out of playoff contention with a record of three wins and four defeats.

Baxter House of the Gateway Curling Club in Port aux Basques, whose rink included third Dave Thomas, second Don Gillam and lead Melvin Bateman, finished with a 2-5 record in a field of eight teams.

Corner Brook’s Susan Curtis, along with rinkmates Amanda Rumboldt, Kathy Miles and Lori Buckle-Stratton, won the women’s crown Sunday at the Corner Brook Curling Club by dumping fellow Corner Brook curler Donna Davis 8-1 in the final to earn the right to represent the province at the national tournament on the women’s side.
