Tibbo, who’s nearest competitor was his twin brother Matthew Tibbo, carded a 74 round Monday to seal the deal under sunny skies and a brisk wind. The champion posted a 72 score in the opening round Saturday and pencilled in a 71 for Sunday’s second round of the three-day tournament for bragging rights.
“I played pretty solid. I got off to a rough start I doubled the first hole of the tournament, but after that I played fairly clean,” Tibbo said moments after returning to the clubhouse. “I didn’t have many birdies, just pars and bogeys pretty much.”
Matthew Tibbo carded a 77 round on Monday to secure second spot. Matthew opened the tournament with a 73 round and followed up with a 74 in the second round to keep him in the hunt for the club championship.
Brian Buckle finished just one stroke behind Matthew Tibbo to garner third place in the men’s bracket, while Allan Masters carded a 79 round Monday for a 225 three-day total and tied for third overall.
John Meaney (71-77-79-227), Tom Daniels (74-75-79-228), Dan Pilcz (73-84-75-232), Andrew Margeson (75-84-78-237), Jordan Barry (75-81-81-237) and Daniel Cluney (69-83-85-237) rounded out the top 10 in the field.
Tibbo admitted it was no cakewalk to his third title in a row with his twin brother and a couple other members on his coattails, but he felt his game off the tee was definitely a factor in the victory.
“I didn’t hit many drivers, but I was always in play so I didn’t have too much trouble,” he said.
Joan MacDonald won the women’s crown after finishing with a three-day total of 290, her best round of three being Monday’s 95 in the final round. Karen Mercer finished eight strokes behind after carding a 96 round Monday, while Shirley Neilson (102-99-99-300), Dinah Park (101-105-107) and Carolann Snooks (116-109-114-339) rounded out the women’s field.
