CORNER BROOK Daniel Cluney holds a three-stroke lead over Andrew Bruce after the first round of the 2013 Blomidon junior golf club championship.
Cluney carded a 73 round Monday afternoon to take charge in the 18-hole junior boys division, while Bruce pencilled in a 76 round on Day 1 at the Blomidon Golf and Country Club links in an event being staged over three days.
Matt Bonnell finds himself in the hunt for the title after carding a 78 round Monday, while Jacob Barry (82), Zack Hiscock (83), Daniel Bruce (83) and Patrick Hickey are still in the thick of things heading into today’s second round.
Nathan King (87), Colin Fowlow (87), Patrick D’Eon (90), Joey Dennis (94), Daniel Penny (98), Ian Grover (99), Noah Thomas (102), Noah Dennis (106) and Rami Habib (124) rounded out the field in the 18-hole junior boys bracket.
Angela Earle, the lone participant in the 18-hole female division, registered an 87 on Day 1 of the championship.
Siblings Paige and Abby Hickey enter today’s second round tied for first in the nine-hole female division after registering identical 42 rounds on Monday.
Aideen Nelson (49), Rachael Davis (50), Taylor Cormier (51), Helena McCarthy (51), Abby Bugden (53), Megan Colbourne (63), Charlotte Cluney (69), April Butt (80), Emily Butt (92) and Emma Waterman rounded out the field in the nine-hole female bracket.
Meanwhile, Daniel O’Neil is leading the pack in the nine-hole boys division after notching a 31 round, a mere stroke ahead of Kirk Penney heading into Day 2.
The rest of the field in the nine-hole boys division includes Nickolas Collins (36), Joseph Cluney (37), Kyle Brown (43), Marcus Ford (45), Alex Willis (47), Jacob Alexander (47), Riley Penton (52), Colin Wyeth (54), Liam Knight (54), Ethan Mercer (58), Ian Davis (61), Ryan Pike (65), Gerry Byrne (67), Matthew Sherstobertoff (76) and Max Chrappa (81).
The junior club champions in all divisions will be crowned Wednesday afternoon at Blomidon Golf and Country Club.
