Abigail Hickey isn’t one to shy away from a challenge. She’s a determined individual who goes after what she wants.
Abigail Hickey is still looking for her first Tour win, but she’s full of energy and determination so she figures things will eventually fall in place for her.
The 14-year-old has enjoyed honing her craft on some of the province’s best golf courses because she gets inspired to be better when she sees how good others her age have taken their game with a lot of hard work and ability to set and achieve goals.
Family road trips and overnight stays in hotels have become the norm as she pursues top spot in the junior girls division with five second-place finishes on the Tour this summer.
The Tour is her ticket to being a better golfer is how the middle of three Hickey children sees it.
“It shows the calibre of the golfers so it inspires you to do better,” Abigail said. “Playing with better golfers always helps me because it shows you how good you can get.”

She’s been competing in a division where several of the challengers have a few years on her so she feels good about her game. She sets realistic goals and works towards them. Finishing in the top three at the Tour Championship at the end of the year is something she sees as obtainable.
Whatever she has to do to make improvements to her swing and become sharper with the putter is something she expects will come with more time on the course and getting a chance to play in bigger events with a quality field of golfers in the mix.
She had her first taste of national exposure earlier this year at nationals, an event she was proud to be playing in because there were only 118 girls from across the country on the course.
She also enjoys sharing the course with her siblings. Both Patrick and Paige have been strong supporters of her as she tries to find her way, and they have always motivated her to keep plugging away at her game.

A lot of teenagers her age probably spent most of their summer soaking up the sun on the beach or just hanging out doing what they like.
She knows her game can only get better if she continues to hit the golf course every chance she gets.
Travelling across the province with an opportunity to meet other golfers and play some neat courses has been a blast for her. She appreciates what the sport has provided her with at a young age, and really believes it’s something that she will always embrace.
“You can play the game throughout your life so I guess I will,” she said.
Abigail is known for her sheer determination, so it’s safe a bet her siblings are well aware of it.
She wants to show who is the best of the trio, sooner rather than later.
