Provincial junior broomball crowns up for grabs in Stephenville

STEPHENVILLE  Young broomball players from around the province will battle for gold at the 2013 provincial junior broomball championships this weekend at the Stephenville Dome.

The three-day event features five teams competing for gold in both male and female competition with champions being declared in both brackets Saturday morning.

St. Anthony, Corner Brook, Goose Bay, Stephenville and Bishop’s Falls will compete for the junior men’s crown with the tournament opener slated for today at 7 p.m. with host St. Anthony battling Goose Bay.

St. Anthony will have two teams in the five-team field for the junior women’s event, while the other entries include Bishop’s Falls, Stephenville and Goose Bay.

The opening game of the junior women’s tournament gets underway today 6 p.m. with Stephenville tangling with St. Anthony Blue.
