CROMWELL, Conn. — Brandon Hynes is already making a strong case to stick with the Hartford Wolf Pack.
Hynes scored twice Wednesday night, including the game-winner, during his debut with the American Hockey League squad, as they defeated the Worcester Sharks 5-2 in the pre-season opener for both clubs at the Champions Skating Center in Cromwell, Conn.
The 20-year-old Norris Point native is currently attending the Wolf Pack’s training camp on a tryout basis, with a guaranteed ECHL contract in place with the Greenville Road Warriors if things don’t work out at the AHL level.
With the score 2-1 after one period of play, Hynes struck at the 4:06 mark of the second period to give his team a 3-1 advantage, beating Sharks netminder Tyler Beskorowany during a two-on-one with teammate Josh Nicholls.
Riding the momentum of that goal through the second intermission, Hynes scored again 1:08 into the third period to make it 4-1, paving the way for the eventual victory.
The Wolf Pack’s next game goes Friday night in Massachusetts against the Springfield Falcons.
