Kings have solid lock on third spot after sweep

CORNER BROOK  The Colemans Western Kings have a lock on third spot in the standings heading into the Christmas break after sweeping the St. John’s Privateers on home ice.

Jordan King had a goal and two assists to lead the Kings to a 5-2 victory over the Privateers Sunday morning at the Pepsi Centre to sweep the series.

Shannon Moores, Derian Gould, Brady Griffin-Hefford and Lucas McKay also scored for the Kings, who defeated the townies 8-5 Saturday night.

Blake Dalton and Lucas Lush dented the twine for the Privateers.

On Saturday night, Jordan King was a dominant force with three goals and two assists as the Kings scored six goals in the first period to set the tone for the game.

Lucas McKay, Shannon Moores, Jordan Richard,  Nathan Ellsworth and Luke Parsons rounded out the scoring parade for the Kings.

Brett Vokey banged home three goals for the Privateers, while Jesse Sutton had a two-goal game in a losing cause.

The Kings will enjoy the holidays with family and friends before heading to Halifax for an invitational tournament Jan. 10-12.
