Titans crush Saints

PORT AUX BASQUES  So much for home-ice advantage.

Michael McWhirter and Blake Skinner both netted hat tricks for the Corner Brook Regional High Titans as they trounced the St. James Regional High Saints 13-6 at the Bruce II Sports Centre on Thursday night.

Brandon Anstey, Matt Colbourne, Robert Hicks, Andrew Taylor and Nick O’Connell provided single markers in the West Coast High School Hockey League triumph.

McWhirter, Whitten and Skinner all recorded four-point nights for the visitors.

Nick Drover (2), Tristan Butt, Tristan Manstan, Nick Batiste and Noah King did the damage for the Saints.

Tyler Gardiner earned the victory for the Titans, splitting time with Thomas Porter in goal.

Mitchell Warren was charged with the defeat at the other end of the ice.

The Titans were up just 4-2 after the first period, but broke the game open in the second, as they built a 9-5 lead before the third period of play.

With the win, the Corner Brook club is now 7-3-0 on the year and in first place. The Gros Morne Academy Panthers are in second at 6-3-0, with the Elwood High Lakers trailing them at 5-4-0. In the fourth and final playoff spot are the Stephenville High Spartans at 4-5-0, while the Saints now sit at 1-8-0 on the year.
