Grant, McCarthy shine in men’s recreational hockey tie

CORNER BROOK  The two goalies took centre stage Thursday night in the Corner Brook Molson Men’s Recreational Hockey League tilt between Western Mazda and Marble Zip Tours.

When the dust settled, the two teams played to a 2-2 tie, with the car crew’s Chris Grant and tour guide’s Craig McCarthy turning aside everything else in a league not exactly heralded for flawless defensive play.

Darren Harvieux and Chris Griffin were the goalscorers for the car crew.

Steve Day and Dwayne Evoy replied for the other side.

Elswhere, Jamie White scored twice to lead Health and Performance Physio over the Mooseracks.

Ryan McMackin and Chris Whitten also scored for the physio club.

Joey Bennett, Jeff Mitchell and Corey Chubbs did the damage in the losing cause.

In other action, Kirby Gillingham and Jeff Lewis both scored two goals each, while Kristian Kavli added one as West 96 edged NAPA/Merry’s/Meineke 5-4

Brad Lodge (2), Brian Clarke and Rob French provided the offence for the muffler men.

Mike Bavis was the winning goalie, while Glen Porter suffered the loss.
