Royals come from behind to split weekend series with Blades

DEER LAKE  The Western Roylas came back from a 2-0 second-period deficit to defeat the Mount Pearl Blades 5-2 Saturday night in Newfoundland Senior Hockey League action in Deer Lake.

It was the final regular-season game for the Royals, who dropped a 5-4 shootout decision to Mount Pearl on Friday night.

After a scoreless first period, the Blades opened up a quick 2-0 lead to start the second.

But the scoring for the Royals fast and furious just minutes later, with Parker Deighan and Matthew Thomey notching goals to even the score at 2 after 40 minutes.

Mathieu Berube and Michael Hynes each added markers for the Royals in the third, while Justin Barbour added an empty netter to put the game on ice.

The win moves the Royals to 11-9-3 on the season, while Mount Pearl dropped to 11-12-0.
