Spartans down Lakers to grab sole possession of third place

DEER LAKE  Jordi Green was unbeatable between the pipes for the Stephenville High Spartans on Monday night in a 3-0 victory over the Elwood High Lakers.

George Young, Cody White and Trevor Snow supplied the offence for the Spartans in the West Coast High School Hockey League matchup at the Hodder Memorial Recreation Complex.

Tristan Moss suffered the loss in goal for the Lakers.

The scoring started at 10:15 of the first period, when Young converted a pass from White.

White picked up a goal of his own at 4:01 of the second, from Young, to make it a 2-0 game.

Then, at 5:40 of the third frame, Snow put his side up by three. Ian MacDonald drew the assist.

With a winning percentage of .666, the 6-3-0 Gros Morne Academy Panthers lead the standings, followed by the 7-4-0 Corner Brook Regional High Titans, which sport a .636 winning percentage. The Spartans move to 6-5-0 for third, followed by the Lakers at 5-6-0. The St. James Regional High Saints sit in last with a 2-8-0 record.
