Tom Stewart wouldn't be looking to waste all his time as a councillor, but certainly devote much of his time to it.
The educator feels the future development of a wastewater treatment facility will be a high priority and a pressing concern for the upcoming council.
"It's not only because of the environmental aspect of cleaning up the bay, but containing the cost involved in that," Stewart said.
With Environment Canada proposing new regulations surrounding wastewater discharges, Corner Brook faces the issue of eliminating the dumping of raw sewage into the Bay of Islands, whether it is ready or not. He wants to be a part of the team that is ready.
"We as a council would have to work with engineers with the city and the provincial and federal governments, and, hopefully, will be able to fund and engineer a project that suits the city," he said.
"While we in Atlantic Canada are not alone on this issue, not every project suits every city."
