Deer Lake -
'When you believe, you can do anything.'
That's the philosophy Diane White of Deer Lake brings to the table as a tireless volunteer within the skating community.
"I truly believe in the wonderful programs we offer and it is so rewarding to be part of the growing process," White said.
"I volunteer for the youth and to give them opportunities and challenges to fulfill their skating goals."
White's approach to skating has been welcomed and appreciated by the skaters, coaches and parents who fall under the umbrella of the Deer Lake Skating Club.
It's now been recognized provincewide as White was presented the Skate Canada Newfoundland and Labrador Section Volunteer Award at an awards banquet held in conjunction with the provincial body's annual general meeting.
White, who serves as western regional director with Skate Newfoundland and Labrador, has been a driving force behind the local club for years and became a lifetime honorary member of the club this year.
She has been a skater herself, a judge, competition chair, regional director and a skating mom.
White took on the role of competition chair for the Deer Lake club this year. She has spent countless hours organizing competitions, test days and seminars for the entire western region.
Deer Lake Skating Club president Loretta Keefe praised White for her hard work and dedication to skating.
"Diane is always making sure that everyone is kept up to date on what is going on in the skating community," Keefe said.
"Diane has a fountain of knowledge that she loves to share with new parents and executive members. She always has time to explain things or share memories of past experiences from her skating life."
