CORNER BROOK — Grace Nichols of Gracia Gymnastics Club in Deer Lake was the all around champion in Level 1 Argo at the 2011 Spring Provincials.
Matching wits against the best 10-year-olds, Nichols won top honours with an all around score of 45.867 Saturday at the Pepsi Centre.
Helena McCarthy of the host Saltos Gymnastics Club managed to claim the silver medal in Level 1 Argo with an all around score of 44.367. McCarthy posted a score of 11.75 in beam to become the provincial Level 1 Argo champion in that apparatus.
Julieanne King of Saltos finished fourth overall in Level 1 Argo, but won the provincial floor champion crown with a score of 11.95 in her floor routine at the Pepsi Centre before an appreciative audience.
Katie Perry of Saltos, finishing 11th overall in Level 1 Tyro with an all around tally of 41.85, managed to defend her provincial vault crown with a score of 12.15 in that particular apparatus.
Taylor Piercey of Saltos was unsuccessful in her attempt to defend her provincial floor champion title, finishing tied for fourth overall in floor en route to a seventh-place finish overall in Level 1 Senior.
Anna Barrett of Saltos placed third overall in Level 1 Cadet (8-9 years) with an all around score of 45.123, but shared the spotlight with the silver medal in beam and floor routines for her age group. Teammate Keely Brothers, with an all around score of 44.19, placed fourth overall and was the silver medalist in vault.
Saltos gymnasts Sam Brenton (54.233), Ben Jacobsen (48.217) and James Barrett (42.567) placed 1-2-3 in male bracket for gymnasts 10 years and older.
