CORNER BROOK — Corner Brook is home to the best high school male basketball team in the province.
The No. 1-ranked Corner Brook Regional High School Titans won the Hall of Fame Cup with a 72-63 victory over Gonzaga High Vikings of St. John’s in the gold-medal showdown Sunday morning in St. John’s.
Ryan Harnett, named to the tournament all-star team, was the top gun for the Titans with a 24-point performance in the championship showdown.
Daniel Foo, chosen the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, had 18 points for the Titans, while Adam Bursey poured in 14 points and collected 10 rebounds as the Titans posted an undefeated record in the showcase tournament featuring the top eight high school boys basketball teams in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Players joining Harnett on the tournament all-star squad included Nick Frew of Mount Pearl Senior High, Brett Warren of Booth Memorial of St. John’s, Christian Greenland of Gonzaga, and Sam Prowse of Gonzaga.
The following is a look at how things unfolded for the Titans in the round-robin portion of the tournament:
Titans 66, St. Catherine’s 50
Jay Warford, player of the game, drained 14 points to lead the charge for the Titans in its tournament opener.
Ryan Park supported the offensive attack with 10 points, while benchmate Adam Bursey collected nine rebounds for the city squad.
Titans 62, O’Donel High of Mount Pearl 42
Ryan Park was the top gun for the Titans with a 14-point outing.
Jacob McIntyre earned player-of-the-game honours for the Titans with a 13-point effort, while Daniel Humber threw in 11 for the winners.
Titans 94, Mount Pearl 64
Ryan Harnett showed his value to the team with a 24-point game for the Titans.
MVP Daniel Foo supported the offence with 19 points, while Jordan Penney had 18 points and 17 rebounds and Adam Bursey added 16 to the mix.
