Titans win gold at provincial 4A female volleyball tourney

MANUELS  The Corner Brook High Titans are the toast of the province in 4A female volleyball circles.

The Titans came up with a dominant performance on the hardcourt to win gold at the provincial 4A female volleyball tournament hosted by Holy Spirit High over the weekend.

The Titans,  under the tutelage of coach Mellissa Oates, won gold with a 26-24, 25-19 sweep of Holy Trinity High School in the best-of-three final Saturday afternoon at Holy Spirit High gymnasium.

The Corner Brook girls, with Triina Voitk winning the team’s Sportsmanship Award, defeated Mount Pearl Senior High 25-22, 25-19 in a semifinal matchup earlier in the day.

The Titans undefeated string against the top 4A female volleyball teams in the province included a 25-19, 25-15 sweep of Exploits Valley High in a quarter-final matchup.

The Titans opened the tournament wthi a 25-20, 25-11 victory over the host team before downing Gander Collegiate 25-17, 25-14 en route to a perfect weekend on the hardcourt.

It marks the fifth time in the past seven years the Titans have won bragging rights as the top 4 A female volleyball team in Newfoundland and Labrador.
