STEPHENVILLE A perfect weekend on the hardwood for the Grenfell Warriors womenâs basketball team.
The Warriors won top honours at the Stephenville High Girls Invitational Basketball Tournament with a 35-30 win over the host Spartans Saturday night at Stephenville High gymnasium.
Amy Cull paved the way for the Warriors, first overall with a 4-0 record in round-robin play, with a 10-point effort and Danielle Hynes added six to the mix for the champions.
Hannah Stokes was the top shooter for the Spartans with 15 points, while Emily Alexander poured in eight points for the second-place team whose only lost was a 46-35 setback at the hands of the Warriors in round-robin play.

Stephenville High Spartans 49, Elwood High Lakers 41
Hannah Stokes was a dominant force for the Spartans with 11 points, while Katara White threw in 10 points at the Stephenville High gymnasium in the tournament opener Friday afternoon.
Jenelle Williams was the top gun for the Lakers with a 12-point performance, while Desrae Pinksen had a 15-point game in a losing cause.

Danielle Wamboldt and Kat White had eight points apiece for the Warriors.
Jacqueline Burke had a game-high 18 points to lead the charge for the Stephenville side, while Holly Smith threw in a bakerâs dozen.

Olivia Janes (11) and Jenelle Williams (7) were the top performers for the Lakers in the big showdown between the two Deer Lake schools.
Mackenzie Parsons and Bailey Humber replied with eight points each for the Xavier girls.

Hannah Stokes (20) and Emily Alexander (6) were the offensive stars for the Spartans against the more experienced hoopsters from the airport town.
Jacqueline Burke (6) and Rachel Loch (5) replied for the Stephenville Women entry.

Kat White (12) and Melissa Penney (11) were the offensive weapons for the Warriors in what proved to be a prelude to the championship final.
Hannah Stokes (15) and Emily Alexander (8) continued to dominate the paint for the Spartans.

Mackenzie Parsons (10) and Bailey Humber (7) led the charge for the Xavier entry.
