Like they were taking a page from the Canadian men’s Olympic hockey team, the Corner Brook Rock men’s broomball squad didn’t need much offence to secure two victories on Thursday.

Paul Prosper notched the only goal of the game as Corner Brook blanked Goose Cove 1-0 during the opening day of the 2014 Broomball Newfoundland and Labrador Men’s and Women’s Championships at the Pepsi Centre, which are being hosted by the women’s Corner Brook Rock team.

Earlier in the day, the Corner Brook men’s team downed Stephenville 1-0 as well, with Gary Kean supplying the lone marker.

The following are summaries from the rest of the action on Thursday:

Bishop’s Falls 3, Happy Valley-Goose Bay 0

Ronnie Penney recorded the hat trick to lead Bishop’s Falls to the win.

The local ladies weren’t as lucky in this one, as Rebecca Ramey and Kelly Way both bulged the twine as the Labrador girls earned the overtime win.

The Sabres picked up the victory thanks to goals from Alyson Rumbolt and Rebecca Pilgrim.

Happy Valley-Goose Bay 2, Twin Town Tornadoes 0
