Grade 9 hoops titles up for grabs this weekend

CORNER BROOK  Basketball bragging rights to Grade 9 basketball crowns in the west will be one the line this weekend.

The West Coast Provincial Grade 9 Boys A and B Basketball tournaments will be held this weekend at Corner Brook Regional High gymnasium with eight teams in the mix for a Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Association title.

Presentation Junior High and G. C. Rowe Junior High Grade 7s, both of Corner Brook, will compete in Division A with Xavier Junior High of Deer Lake, while Pasadena Academy, Lewisporte Academy, Exploits Valley and White Hills Academy of St. Anthony fill out the B Division with the tournament opening Friday at the Corner Brook high school.

Presentation Junior High will tangle with Xavier Junior High of Deer Lake 3:30 p.m. Friday in the tournament opener. Round-robin games are scheduled throughout Friday and Saturday with the championship game scheduled for Sunday 1:30 p.m. at the home of the Titans.

Meanwhile, Xavier Junior High in Deer Lake will put out the welcome mat for three visiting teams vying for gold at the West Coast Provincial Grade 9 Girls A Basketball Tournament.

The host team will battle it on the hardwood against budding female hoopsters from Exploits Valley in Grand Falls-Windsor, Presentation Junior High of Corner Brook and G. C. Rowe Junior High of Corner Brook.

The Xavier girls hit the hardwood against Exploits Valley in the tournament opener Friday 3:30 p.m. at the Xavier gymnasium.

The West Coast Provincial Grade 9 Girls B Basketball Tournament will be hosted this weekend by New World Island Academy in Summerford with six teams in the mix for gold.
